#1 Infrastructure matters ARE engineering matters
#2 Advocating for African Union's states to embrace Engineering & Engineers, and the future #EngineerGeneral
@ChangingthingsS give me an example where the CBE has acted to improve standards in the built environment, especially when these have been flouted by registered professionals - what actions have been taken against professionals who have created, through poor design or supervision, BE disasters?
The CBE Act mandates coordination, regulation, and standards in the built environment.
But @CBE_SA must go further, its mandate should ensure the delivery of Chapter 2 constitutional rights.

@ECSAOfficial: Your mandates must translate into real delivery of Chapter 2 constitutional rights. South Africans deserve infrastructure that upholds dignity, safety, and equality.

@eNCA Funding alone will not resolve Johannesburg’s infrastructure crisis. Experienced professional engineering practitioners must be appointed to executive roles within @CityPowerJhb, and tenders should be awarded to qualified consulting engineers and competent contractors.
"That Modimolle & Mookgopong stretch of road on N1 North to Polokwane is super dangerous. We need a barrier in between urgently💔" ~ @Mothematiks

Where are our engineers? @DepartmentPWI@ECSAOfficial
Public health and safety cannot be optional.
For lack of political will and engineering action, people are injured, lives are lost, and the economy suffers when freeways close.
Engineers are trained to design and deliver safe, reliable roads - @GovernmentZA must let them do their job.

@ChangingthingsS@DepartmentPWI@ECSAOfficial@cidb_sa the problem starts with the ANC: as long as their cadres are appointed in decision-making positions, no engineer will predominate. As we have seen with other Chapter 9 institutions. They all kowtow to the ANC position. An Engineer-General will be in a similar situation...
@andrewmerrifie7@DepartmentPWI@ECSAOfficial@cidb_sa Chapter 9 institutions are independent, impartial, and accountable only to the Constitution.
Yet the engineering profession was left out when these safeguards were created.
Real accountability must include an engineering institution, not just @AuditorGen_SA@PublicProtector
If engineering was a picture - R1.9bn Siloam Hospital.
Value for money - and the responsible use of taxpayers’ funds - must remain paramount. The proposed #Ch9EngineerGeneral, once established, will play a critical role in advancing this objective.
#AgendaForEngineering
@ChangingthingsS@DepartmentPWI@ECSAOfficial The Siloam Hospital was announced in 2011 by the National Cabinet to be completed by 2013, but the engineers who ruled in National Health were unable to get the project going and eventually it ends up with the DBSA and is still being built in 2026. A great achievement?
@cidb_sa may establish and maintain a register of suppliers, manufacturers or service providers in the construction industry. The provisions of Chapter Four apply with the necessary changes required by the context, to that register;

What is democracy?
Democracy means little without water, roads, and electricity - engineering is central to delivering basic services and upholding human rights. Engineers & the engineering profession matters.
