@TorenF@jburnmurdoch Scientists have stated that even Tier 4 lockdown is not sufficient to stop the spread of the new variants due to their much higher transmission rate. We would have to lockdown more strictly and nationally to bring down rates now these new variants are in play.
@Ed_Miliband I'd love it if the UK had adopted an Australian style system - over there, any business reporting more than 30% downturn based on same quarter last year is eligible for assistance. If we had that here, all affected businesses could have been supported, not just a targeted few
@Ed_Miliband While there is, rightly, focus on hospitality businesses, there is almost no focus to their supply chain and other businesses. My partner has run a limo hire business for over 10 years, successfully, but lockdown restrictions means he is 99% down on revenue
@jessbrammar As an Aussie who made England her home, let me borrow a phrase from you guys but throw away reserve and say it like we might do at home: it's bloody bollocks. We all deserve better.
@JenWilliamsMEN Really appreciate your updates and continued coverage of this Jen - as a regular layperson, have found your summaries to be, well, brilliant. Just sorry it has been so grim for you and for all of us really.
@cathynewman@Channel4News Honestly, keep it as Unicorn! Best thing about wfh has been seeing personality and seeing people being their whole selves, not these 'work approrpriate' facades. I think the unicorn is brilliant!
We’re in a mess. Cases, hospitalisations and deaths are all rising. It's too late for test and trace to stop it. Things will just get worse. We have FOUR options: (1)
@ReeceBoast @MENnewsdesk Above 1 is the R (rate of transmission). The 400+ figure in the graphic is not the R rate but rate of how many Covid cases per 1000 people :) Still concerning as I think R is currently around 1.2-1.5 atm
@sainsburys my order (already full of substituitons) hasn't turned up, tried to call you but was hung up on due to call volumes and your link to FB messenger broken. I'd like my food please. Or my money back. Terrible service.
@JimMFelton This was so horrific I gasped out loud. I can't unsee what I've just seen. Why... why...? This is an outright act of hostility. That poor tea bag...
@SophyRidgeSky @RidgeOnSunday Why does he bang on about testing capacity (which is relatively meaningless) instead of actual tests? The opacity comes across as cynical withholding of bad info. Re R: Some studies say it is above 1 in NE. He says no. On what basis is he making this decision?
@AlunDaviesMS @BBCNews Absolutely untrue. Countless times the BBC have explicitly made clear differences in policy between the 4 nations. I myself am very clear on what applies to England (and not Wales and vice versa). Your characterisation is unfair and untrue.
@MattHancock Testing capacity is meaningless unless you're actually doing that many tests, which you're not or you'd be releasing those figures. This government is disgraceful and actively being as opaque as possible. I have zero trust in any of you.
