We can confirm the names of the three Royal Navy personnel who tragically lost their lives during a helicopter training exercise on 3 June:

Ever wondered what it was like in the Royal Navy in the early `70`s, well now you can convert your home to resemble the good old days and live the life, as taken from an RN website:
1. Build a shelf in the top of your wardrobe, fit a thin mattress and sleep on top of it.
2. Remove the wardrobe door and replace it with a curtain that is too small.
3. Wash your socks and underpants in the bathroom sink every night, then hang them on the water pipes to dry.
4. Four hours after you have gone to bed, instruct your wife to whip open the curtain, shine a torch in your face and say, "Sorry mate, wrong pit!"
5. When you have a shower, remember to turn the water off when you soap.
6. Every time there is a thunderstorm, sit in a wobbly rocking-chair and rock as hard as you can until you are violently sick.
7. Put diesel oil into a humidifier and set it on high to achieve that wonderful Ship Aroma.
8. Don't watch TV except for a movie at 20:30. For added realism, have the family vote for which movie to have and then select a different one.
9. Leave a lawnmower running in the house to re-create correct noise levels.
10.Have the postman or paperboy give you a haircut fortnightly.
11.Once a week, blow compressed air up your chimney, ensuring that the soot is carried over to your neighbour's home. When he comes to complain, laugh in his face and say "That's life in a blue suit mate"

13.Wake up at midnight each night and make a sandwich out of anything you can find.
14.Have a fridge in your home specifically for beer. put a lock on it and give the key to the local policeman.
15.Keep spare keys for above and empty it every lunchtime.
16.Devise your family menu a week in advance without looking in the fridge or freezer.
17.Once a month, take apart every household appliance then re-assemble them.
18.Use four spoonfuls of coffee per cup and wait 3 hours before drinking it.
19.Invite 40 people you don't like, to stay in your house for a couple of months.
20.Install a small fluorescent strip light under your coffee table then lie underneath it to read a book.
21.Raise the thresholds and lower the top sills of all the doors in the house, so you will either bang your head or skin your shins every time you pass through them.
23.Every so often throw one of the kids into the bath and scream "Man overboard!" Sling in a sponge with a flag on it, then run into the kitchen and sweep all the pots and pans onto the floor and yell at your wife for not securing for sea.
24.Get your wife and kids to clean their rooms every evening and at 19:00 wander around the house with the local policeman.

30.Put windows and a bloody big wheel in your loft.
31.Every Thursday at 05:00 in the morning, run around the house yelling "Hands to Action Stations!"
32. When the family demands more food, yell back at them "WHAT DO YOU EXPECT FOR 39p PER DAY, PER MAN"
16 March 1916, while on way to Buenos Aires & 93 kms off Dutch coast, SS Tubantia, Royal Holland Lloyd ocean liner, was torpedoed & sunk by German UB-13. All 80 passengers & 294 crew rescued. Largest neutral vessel sunk during #WW1. Loss caused great fury amongst Dutch public.
#OnThisDay 1980 @RoyalNavy instituted the #Armilla patrol, the name given to the permanent presence in #Persian gulf. During 80s & 90s Leander, T21, 22, 23 Frigates &T42 Destroyers Carried the Duty and the first ship to deploy was HMS COVENTRY.

18 Dec 1916, the 10-month Battle of Verdun ends. Casualties numbered about 400,000 for French & 350,000 for Germans. About 300,000 were killed. Unknown dead commemorated at Douaumont Ossuary, that contains remains of 150,000 unidentified French & German soldiers. #WW1
5 Dec 1859, Admiral Sir John Jellicoe, born. 1872, joined Royal Navy. C-in-C Grand Fleet at Battle of Jutland (May 31, 1916). Nov 1916 to Dec 1917, served as First Sea Lord. 1919, promoted to Admiral of fleet. 1920-1924, Governor General of New Zealand. Died 1935, aged 75. #WW1
4 Nov 1918, Lt Wilfred Owen, Manchester Regt, died, aged 25. KiA during crossing of Sambre–Oise Canal. Buried Ors Communal Cemetery. Mother received telegram about death on Armistice Day. Arguably greatest #WW1 poet, although in his lifetime, few of his poems appeared in print.
25 Oct 1914, General Sir Charles Douglas, Chief of Imperial General Staff, died from renal colic, bronchitis & pulmonary congestion exacerbated by overwork, aged 64. Buried Kensal Green Cemetery. Succeeded by General Murray. Served 2nd Anglo-Afghan War & 1st & 2nd Boer Wars. #WW1

25 Oct 1914, General von Falkenhayn (1861–1922) replaced von Moltke as German Chief of Staff. Believed that Germany had to win #WW1 war in France by standing on defensive & exhausting Allies. After long & unsuccessful assault on Verdun, replaced by more assertive von Hindenburg.
#OnThisDay 80 yrs ago in 1945 the last 'service' launch from an RN carrier by a Fairey Swordfish took place from HMS OCEAN. Though HMS CENTAUR launched 2 in 1959 during the filming of Sink The Bismarck. In WW2 it destroyed more enemy maritime tonnage than any allied aircraft.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Admiral of the Fleet Sir Ben Bathurst GCB. A remarkable leader, he served the Royal Navy and our Nation with distinction for over 40 years - from Squadron Commander to First Sea Lord. Our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones.
12 Oct 1915, British nurse Edith Cavell shot. Guilty of treason for aiding 200 Allied soldiers escape from German-occupied Belgium. Had deep Christian faith. On night b4 died, said, ‘Standing as I do in view of God & eternity .. I must have no hatred or bitterness towards anyone'
