In his earlier scholarship, Nilsson explicitly identifies Hitler as responsible for the Holocaust.

In his review of Volker Ullrich's biography, he described Hitler as an “anti-Semitic mass murderer” and characterized the Holocaust as an unprecedented genocide that was “planned and executed by Hitler and other leading Nazis.”

Nilsson has publicly stated that he worked with Stiftelsen Expo, a Swedish organization that describes itself as a religiously and politically independent anti-racist foundation focused on researching and countering racist organizations, ideas and conspiracy theories.
