In truth, when I arrived in Canada as an immigrant in mid-70s it was very unified under Anglo culture outside Quebec, and Quebecois culture in Quebec.

There were ethnic neighbourhoods BUT no ethnic enclaves controlled by alien immigrants behaving as extended kin networks favoring their co-ethnics in resource competition.

There were no migration chains, low ethnic nepotism, no parallel economies, and minimal preferential hiring.

Among the Western-Christian immigrants there was high trust of strangers, low ethnocentrism, low nepotism, and the public sphere was genuinely treated as a neutral and impartial sphere rather than as place to exploit for one's ethnic interests.

Immigration was controlled rather than incessant, continuous, and massive, as it has been since the early 1990s.
