The ICON message is designed to be easy to remember and use by parents, caregivers and professionals to help them better understand that infant crying is normal and how to cope with crying.

Baby’s can sense a caregiver’s stress and frustration. Handling a baby roughly or acting on an aggressive impulse can make the situation worse.
Speak calmly, handle gently and use comforting techniques. It's okay to walk away and take a break if the baby is safe.
Remember its okay to take a break from your baby's crying as long as your baby is safe.
Do something that helps you to relax and takes your mind off the crying then return to check on your baby after a few minutes.

Hearing from Julian from @dadpaduk at the Hampshire launch emphasised an important aspect of reaching dads and male caregivers with the ICON message. The DadPad booklets and app provide a great resource for dads, full of ideas and information.
