25 years ago when some of us completed JSS, SSS placement was manual. We applied before our BECE results were even released. Once you met the cut-off, admission including your chosen programme was straightforward.

Today, students know their results before choosing schools, and placement is computerized using an algorithm.

So why does a supposedly more transparent and efficient system seem to generate more controversy than when headmasters manually sorted admission cards?

Technology was supposed to solve the problem. What changed?

If an MP’s basic salary is 60,000 just assume they’re taking Ghc 150,000 every month.

If a Ghanaian is earning 6,000 a month which is even on the high side, he will be taxed from it. He will use the remainder to pay his rent, fuel, fees, groceries, utilities, hospital bills. At the end his “true in hand” salary is Ghc 1,000. That’s the only money he can even struggle to say it’s for his savings or personal benefit.
