A family from Brampton thought they’d found the perfect shortcut, dumping a mountain of household trash in a quiet Ontario cornfield. They thought they were being slick—until they realized they’d left behind shipping labels with their full address printed right on them.

The farmer who discovered the mess wasn’t looking for a legal battle; he preferred a more personal delivery. He loaded their garbage into his tractor’s front-end loader and drove straight to their suburban driveway.

When he knocked, a woman answered and quickly tried to play it cool, denying she was the person named on the packages. But the plan fell apart when a younger girl stepped to the door. The farmer pointed to a discarded toy in the pile and asked, “Is that your stuffed animal?”

The girl’s honest nod was all the confirmation he needed. Out of the kindness of his heart, the farmer tipped the loader, returning every bit of the family’s junk right onto their doorstep.

The lesson is clear: you can try to outsmart a farmer, but you’ll never outwork one. 🚜 Don’t mess with the people who feed you!

🚨 Arbitration victory for workers denied COVID-19 vaccine exemptions

The Democracy Fund is encouraged by the labour arbitration victory for union members that were improperly denied COVID-19 vaccine exemption requests.

During COVID-19 lockdowns many Canadian employers implemented vaccine mandates, forcing employees to choose between job loss or an unwanted COVID-19 vaccination. TDF lawyers met with many union members confronted with this dilemma, and explained their legal rights under human rights legislation and collective agreements.

Many religious union members who opposed vaccination due to their sincerely held religious beliefs, filed religious exemption requests with their employers. However, these religious exemptions were often denied arbitrarily and superficially. Sometimes employers requested written proof of relevant spiritual doctrine from a religious objector. Sometimes employers summarily rejected claims of sincere religious belief.

In 2022, the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), on behalf of 7 unionized Air Canada pilots, brought grievances against Air Canada for improperly rejecting their vaccine exemption requests. After their religious exemption requests were denied, the pilots were placed on unpaid leaves of absence. The union members alleged workplace religious discrimination under their Collective Agreement and the Canadian Human Rights Act.

A labour arbitrator has now ruled in favour of the pilots, as reported in Air Canada v. Air Line Pilots’ Association 2026 CanLII 16803 (CA LA).

Arbitrator Hayes ruled that denying these religious exemption requests was improper and resulted in workplace discrimination contrary to the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Collective Agreement. The arbitrator held that it was not appropriate for Air Canada to direct employees to justify religious exemptions with a "personalized, written, and dated explanation from your religious leader explaining the religious reasons why you are unable to be vaccinated against COVID-19." Arbitrator Hayes reiterated that the law requires an employer to assess an individual’s subjective religious beliefs rather than making an overly objective determination of whether those beliefs objectively conform to the mandates of the religion.

TDF Litigation Director Mark Joseph said, "During the COVID-19 pandemic, we saw employers in unionized workplaces demand that religious objectors provide written proof of the religious doctrine justifying their COVID-19 vaccination exemption. Many employers then either dismissed these exemptions summarily or ignored them. We maintained that this demand was legally improper. University officials made similar demands of university students. Though we assisted where possible, for many clients, the initial religious exemption denial meant choosing between losing employment or educational progress, followed by years of litigation, or abandoning religious principles and acquiescing to the vaccine mandate. Canadian society has yet to address this disgraceful, coercive conduct by employers, university administrators and authorities."

A professor at the university asked his students the following question:

“Everything that exists was created by God?”
One student bravely answered:
“Yes, it was created by God.”

The professor asked :
“If God created everything, then God created evil, since it exists. And according to the principle that our deeds define ourselves, then God is evil.”

The student became silent after hearing such an answer. The professor was very pleased with himself. He boasted to students for proving once again that faith in God is a myth.

Another student raised his hand and said:
“Can I ask you a question, professor?”
"Of course," replied the professor.

“Professor, is cold a thing?”
“What kind of question is this? Of course it exists. Have you ever been cold?”
Students laughed at the young man's question.

The young man answered:
“Actually, sir, cold doesn't exist. According to the laws of physics, what we consider cold is actually the absence of heat. A person or object can be studied on whether it has or transmits energy.
Absolute zero (-460 degrees Fahrenheit) is a complete absence of heat. All matter becomes inert and unable to react at this temperature. Cold does not exist. We created this word to describe what we feel in the absence of heat.”

The student continued:
“Professor, does darkness exist?”
“Of course it exists.” said the professor.
“You're wrong again, sir. Darkness also does not exist. Darkness is actually the absence of light. We can study the light but not the darkness. We can use Newton's prism to spread white light across multiple colors and explore the different wavelengths of each color. You can't measure darkness. A simple ray of light can break into the world of darkness and illuminate it. How can you tell how dark a certain space is? You measure how much light is presented. Isn't it so? Darkness is a term man uses to describe what happens in the absence of light.”

In the end, the young man asked the professor:
“Sir, does evil exist?”
This time it was uncertain, the professor answered:
“Of course, as I said before. We see him every day. Cruelty, numerous crimes and violence throughout the world. These examples are nothing but a manifestation of evil.”

To this, the student answered:
“Evil does not exist, sir, or at least it does not exist for itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is like darkness and cold—a man-made word to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is not faith or love, which exist as light and warmth. Evil is the result of the absence of Divine love in the human heart. It’s the kind of cold that comes when there is no heat, or the kind of darkness that comes when there’s no light.”

🚨 Pfizer gave $11M to Canadian officials during COVID, who got the money and why?

Whistleblower lawsuit alleges foreign corruption violations that call into question Pfizer’s influence on Canada’s pandemic decisions.

While Canadians were being urged to “trust the science” and line up for COVID-19 vaccines, a 2023 whistleblower lawsuit in California suggests something very concerning was happening behind the scenes.

Frank Han, Pfizer’s former director of global compliance analytics, alleges in a civil lawsuit that the pharmaceutical giant funnelled millions to what the company labelled “Potentially Influential Government Officials,” or PIGOs. According to the suit, this activity violated foreign corruption laws.

Han claims he raised red flags about potential fraudulent interactions between Pfizer and officials in China, only to be fired for doing so. Now, his lawsuit has brought attention to an unprecedented level of corporate spending on government contracts during a global health crisis.

Between the second quarter of 2019 and the third quarter of 2021 — spanning the pre-pandemic period through the global rollout of mRNA vaccines — Pfizer allegedly spent $168 million targeting officials in China, $12 million in the United States, and $11 million in Canada.

Canadian virologist and immunologist Dr. Byram Bridle points out that the scale is extraordinary. Canada’s pharmaceutical market is roughly one-eighteenth the size of the U.S., yet it received nearly as much money as American officials.

Why would Pfizer invest so heavily in Canadian contacts when public health agencies here typically follow U.S. guidance anyway? What positions did these officials hold, and what decisions were influenced, from vaccine procurement to lockdown policies to public messaging?

As it stands now, under Canada’s conflict of interest rules, public officials must disclose certain financial relationships, but there’s no easily searchable public record showing where Pfizer’s $11 million went.

At Rebel News, we’re filing Access to Information requests to uncover this paper trail.

Canadians deserve clarity on whether those shaping public health policy had undisclosed financial ties to a company profiting from the crisis.

If Pfizer’s payments to Canadian PIGOs were legitimate, disclosure should be straightforward, but if money influenced decisions during one of the most consequential public health crises in modern history, Canadians have a right to know and to demand accountability.

The questions are clear, but the answers remain in the hands of those who received the money.

After the Nuremberg Trials, one of the most unsettling conclusions did not come from the courtroom, but from the psychiatrist tasked with evaluating the defendants.

Dr. Douglas Kelley, the U.S. Army psychiatrist assigned to assess many of the senior Nazi officials, expected to find monsters people fundamentally different from the rest of humanity. He did not.

What disturbed him most was how ordinary they were.

They were not raving madmen. They were not obvious sociopaths. They were intelligent, educated, and often convinced they were simply doing their duty, following orders, or serving a higher cause. Kelley warned that this was the real danger: evil does not always look abnormal. It often presents itself as competence, obedience, and institutional loyalty.

His central warning was deeply uncomfortable there are people with morally vacant or destructive tendencies everywhere. In every society. In every era. What determines the outcome is whether systems elevate those people, shield them from accountability, and normalize their behavior, and whether ordinary citizens are willing to question authority when it matters most.

Modern bureaucracies and institutions are powerful precisely because they diffuse responsibility. Decisions are broken into policies, protocols, committees, and “best practices.” Harm is rarely framed as harm; it is reframed as necessity, risk management, or compliance. Individuals are encouraged not to think morally, but procedurally.

This is how ordinary people become capable of extraordinary wrongdoing by outsourcing conscience to institutions and convincing themselves that accountability lies somewhere else.

The lesson of Nuremberg is not that “those people were different.” It is that they were not.

That is why vigilance matters. That is why blind trust in authority is dangerous. And that is why a healthy society must protect dissent, accountability, and moral courage especially when it is inconvenient.

History does not repeat itself because people forget facts. It repeats itself when people convince themselves, “It could never happen here.”
