We are closely monitoring the aviation collision incident that occurred earlier this evening near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. The State of Maryland and local authorities are engaged in response. (1/3)
I know there was a lot of confusing back and forth today over the Trump administration’s actions to freeze federal funding. Here is where things stand today: the OMB memo was rescinded, but the underlying executive orders to pause funding have not been.
We are still in court. Now here is where I stand:
“Millions of people’s lives across the State and nation would be upended by a federal freeze. Veterans receiving housing assistance may not be able to pay their rent, young children from under-resourced communities might not be able to attend pre-school, and seniors who use the Meals on Wheels program might not eat.
The Trump Administration’s attempted freeze reflects their incompetence in governing and their callous disregard for people’s safety and peace of mind.
Along with our partner states, our Office was in court today on behalf of everyone who benefits from these vital programs. State attorneys general stand together on the frontlines to make sure this administration does not violate the rule of law. As Maryland’s Attorney General, I will do whatever I can to protect Marylanders.”
My father was diagnosed with a heart arrhythmia. At the time, the medication he needed - Eliquis - cost $800.
That changed when the Inflation Reduction Act let Medicare negotiate the cost. So I asked just how impactful that legislation was for Marylanders.
Turns out, very.
What the Trump Administration did yesterday caused instability and chaos.
But I want to be clear that we are going to answer instability from Washington with clear, calm, and steady leadership of our own.
Our commitment to our values and our people will not waver.
You know who relies on federal grants?
-Veterans who need housing
-Hungry kids whose parents rely on SNAP benefits
-Police officers who need equipment
-Families who've lost their homes in natural disasters
These are the Americans the Admin has decided to target. It's shameful.
It doesn't matter if you're a Republican or a Democrat. When someone you love is sick, you want them to have the lifesaving medications that they need. And that's what I'll fight for every day.
On this anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we reaffirm our commitment to a simple truth: women have a fundamental right to autonomy over their own bodies. So we will keep fighting for exactly that.
Proud to be named to 3 subcommittees on Banking:

I will work to strengthen our economy and build wealth for hardworking Marylanders.
The nearly 150,000 Maryland federal workers are hardworking, dedicated, apolitical civil servants who have the profound privilege of working for the American people.
The executive orders we have seen are meant to target them. We on Team Maryland will always have their backs.
The January 6th rioters attacked the U.S. Capitol and tried to overthrow our democracy.
They assaulted and bloodied police officers.
To pardon them shows contempt for law enforcement, for the rule of law, and for our justice system and Constitution.
Pete Hegseth is unqualified and unfit to lead the Department of Defense. These latest sworn statements are further evidence of disturbing and outrageous conduct.
Is this really who Republicans want to entrust with the lives of our men and women in uniform?https://t.co/Bl5V6XZcBe
It's no accident that Trump talked about a new "golden age" with the billionaires sitting in the front row.
He wants it for THEM — not for working people.
His first day made it clear:
Donald Trump’s Golden Age is for the special interests, for the wealthy elite, and for the corporate insiders.
Not for the working and middle class.
Today, two momentous occasions collide — the observation of Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the inauguration of Donald Trump, the 47th President of the United States.
On this day, as we reflect on both the past and present, it remains my sincere hope that each and every one of us — from the President to my colleagues in the Senate to community leaders and more — have both the openness to see the need of our fellow citizens and the courage and conviction to answer that need.
The same openness and courage that Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. had.
Ours is a country where each and every American can live freely, justly, and yes, successfully. Where the American dream isn’t just a dream we wax poetic about but one we can all pursue with dignity.
