You knew from the beginning that your opponent was planning to cheat you using undemocratic means. Yet, you were still playing by the rules. If I were you, I would have spoken the same undemocratic language to him. A bit of brutality helps to bring about positive change.

No matter how competent you are, never play fair in party politics. It is sometimes more brutal than general elections. Never allow your opponent to outrig you.
