Jurors in Massachusetts trials, including this one, routinely receive admitted physical exhibits in the deliberation room and are expected to examine them.

The judge in the Clancy case explicitly told the jury they would have all the exhibits with them.

There is no general “look, don’t touch” rule for items that have been formally admitted as evidence. Simple handling or a brief demonstration that applies ordinary common sense to those exhibits is typically allowed.

Courts in multiple states have upheld jury-room reenactments or tests that stay inside the room, use only admitted evidence or everyday objects already present, and do not generate new facts outside the trial record.
