About two years ago, I went to Mzuzu to visit my mum. I found my little cousin home. She had done miserably at MSCE and everyone had given up on her especially because she was seen as a troublesome kid. She was contemplating on going to “joni” like her older sister. I asked her, if she would love to repeat MSCE at a better school and she agreed without hesitation. I sent her to a boarding school to repeat which made a huge difference as she had been previously she had been at a day school. This preceded a lot of counselling and mentorship from me. While at school, I always followed up on her progress. She did well at MSCE this time around. Yesterday, she just told me she has been selected to the University of Malawi. Makes me proud but the reason I share this is that I believe everyone deserves second, third and as many chances while they live. And we must always push each other, especially those of us ahead in life. With the right support and mentorship, anyone can “willing” can achieve anything!
