Bournemouth 1-1 Sunderland - Video Analysis πΉπ
Eliezer Mayenda's goal (0-1) πββ¬β½οΈ - #afcb#safc#premierleague#analysis
Firstly, I think James Hill has enough separation between himself and Enzo Le Fee to clear this ball by himself.
Marcos Senesi comes across and makes the tackle, but for me he is too aggressive in everything that happens after the challenge is made. As a result of Senesi shifting across, Tyler Adams also has to sit in, which I will come back to later.
Mayenda, the eventual scorer, has Hill and Jimenez to contend with. If Senesi is going to be as aggressive as he is, the intelligence has to match it. He should move goal-side of Jimenez and allow his right-back to be the widest player.
Instead, Senesi creates an enormous disconnect between himself and James Hill by stepping out.
Sunderland shift the ball out from the left channel to Dan Ballard. David Brooks should not be man marking in midfield. Adams should be taking care of Sadiki. Instead, due to Senesi stepping across, Adams dropped into the backline to cover and therefore was out of position.
There is also an error in communication, as you'll see, there is a point where both Brooks and Adams are marking Sadiki. Instead, once Adams had returned to his usual position, Brooks should have pushed up and either cut out the inside pass or the wide ball. Instead Brooks does neither.
Talbi's movement entices Truffert to step up. This creates a even more space between Senesi and Tuffert who have become stretched. Adams is no longer covering Senesi as he had to step up and mark Sadiki. Therefore, the space is easily exploited by Sunderland.
In the second angle of the clip, you can see how Senesi is yet to return to his original position. A short term fix would have been to tell Hill to shift over and cover his position for this phase.
You can also see Adams and Brooks marking the same player as mentioned above.
It's something I've been speaking about for a while, but Bournemouth have to sort out their defensive organisation if they have ambitions of European football. They have been too easy to score against.
