Just stormed out of “Cats” with my sons Bairon & Tannis because of how much the Judi Dench cat licks her own asshole. Once I’d understand, but she acts like the thing is a goddamn buffet. Tannis is still crying
Outdoor classroom + pavement chalk + provocative questions = invigorated mathematicians. How does halving and doubling work and relate back to the area model? @UNIS_Hanoi@joboaler
“Maths is so stretchy!” Overheard during a warmup investigation into doubling and halving activity when a student realized they could double and half more than once. Flexible mathematicians are successful mathematicians. @joboaler@UNIS_Hanoi@unis@ctfosnot
Thank you Jane McGee for talking to our 5th Grade students as part of their governance unit. By seeing how UNIS is organised and run, we can make great links to #SDG16 recognising the importance of teams working together and making decisions that benefit everyone @UNIS_Hanoi
Simple lesson identifying flags and locating countries became a rich discussion about climate action, humanitarian crises and global responsibility. These students can't help but make meaningful connections to the SDGs! #uniquelyunis#TeachSDGs@UNIS_Hanoi#sustainableunishanoi
5th Grade Students @UNIS_Hanoi use #SDGs to practice their non-fiction reading skills, including mining for information and summarizing. Can you re-write #SDG17 in exactly 66 words? These students can. #uniquelyunis#GlobalGoals
It’s thumbs up all the way as we read Chapter 7 of #GRAFront today for #GRA19. One question that lots of us had for @kellyyanghk was what gives you the inspiration for the amazing, eclectic characters known as ‘the weeklies?’ @UNIS_Hanoi#uniquelyUNis
Great first GRA#19 lesson, making predictions and analyzing the front cover for clues. @kellyyanghk, my students had some questions for you too and are super excited to connect over the coming weeks. #uniquelyunis
Looking forward to diving into Front Desk by @kellyyanghk with my Gr 5 readers as part of this year’s #GRA19 global read aloud. Let me know if you want to connect classrooms over the next 6 weeks. #UniquelyUNIS
After years of thinking about it, finally built up the courage to use Alphabet Aerobics by #Blackalicious to inspire. My pupils pulled out their pencils, put down some pumping prose and presented with pride this piece of pounding poetry. @isb_es@IntSchBrussels#poetry
Reflecting on a year of being a #school’s #DPO:
the greatest successes are the never events
- the breaches that didn’t happen
- the data leaking tech that wasn’t used
- the facial recognition tech that wasn’t introduced.

‘Do yourself a kindness...take passion off the table...follow your curiosity...it’s gentler. Follow the trail of the hummingbird path and trust the journey...it might just lead you to your passion.’ And if it doesn’t, that’s ok!’ Thanks @GilbertLiz.. to be curious IS enough!

I'm convinced that the most important word in curriculum development is "no." We layer program over program. We add but are reluctant to subtract. The result is clutter and the haunting feeling that we aren't doing anything thoroughly or well.
What you need to be a #DPO:
1. Belief in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UN 1948,Resolution 217 A (III),Articles 3 & 12)
2. Belief in the Convention on the Rights of the Child, (UN 1989,Articles 16 & 40)
3. Thick Skin.
It shouldn't be difficult.
