Dysarthria affects a personβs ability to verbally communicate.
Communication tips for the speaker with dysarthria:
1. Speak slowly and loudly
2. Use short phrases
3. Take pauses to make sure the listener understands
4. Use gestures, drawing, pictures, writing
Dysarthria communication tips for the listener:
1. Limit background noise
2. Watch the person with dysarthria as they talk, it might help understanding
3. Repeat back information to confirm understanding
4. Ask yes or no questions if more clarification is required.
