Providence Day wide receiver Braylon Clark is one of seven high school football players nationally to sign with adidas’ 2026 adizero class.
Clark is a 4-star prospect ranked No. 29 overall in the class of 2028. He is the nation’s No. 6 recruit in his class
Hunter Huss High sophomore basketball star Jaleel Smith is transferring to Oak Hill (Va).
Smith was The Charlotte Observer basketball player of the year in the 2025-26 season after he led the Huskies to their first state championship in 15 years.
He averaged 26 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 steals for Hunter Huss, which finished the season 26-2.
Pine Lake Prep’s Jackson Grathwohl headlines the 2026 All-Observer boys tennis team after winning the 3A singles title and leading a dual team championship.

Just days after receiving an unprecedented grant of appeal to restore its state championship, Mallard Creek star Nyan Brown and coach Sam Willoughby are named Charlotte Observer track athlete, coach of the year.

Florida is going to adopt an open classification state football championship for the top 8 teams in the state this year based on MaxPreps rankings.
All other teams will play in class, as usual, with one change: Florida is eliminating one class for football, going from 8 to 7.
Christ The King's Addison Pierce is The Observer's high school athlete of the week.
Pierce was named MVP of her team’s 3-0 win over Franklin Academy in the NCHSAA 2A girls' soccer state finals. Pierce had all three of her team’s goals.
Pierce, a junior striker, finished the season with 44 goals and 14 assists. She also had her 100th career goal last month.
This is the final athlete of the week for the 2025-26 school year. The awards will return in the fall.
