Petrol cost around ₹71 per litre in 2014. Today, E20 petrol costs around ₹112 per litre, while XP100 costs around ₹162 per litre. What many people overlook is that the fuel they're paying for is ethanol-blended, not pure petrol. In other words, the effective price of pure petrol has nearly doubled over the past 12 years, despite global crude oil prices having fallen to levels last seen around 2006.
