Some of our team presented a patient's story at the Midlands Specialised Rehabilitation Network meeting and were voted as winners!
A massive thank you to our patient for letting us share his inspiring rehabilitation journey.

And today was different because my ‘disability’ (I never use this word) but being deaf gave me instant access and understanding into her world and symptoms. I think I need to find a way of using sign more in future. /5 #Deafspeechie#holistic#mySLTday#signspokenEnglish
A bit of a personal post but today was a day of firsts. I used sign language at work during a swallowing assessment and the pt’s face just lit up when I introduced myself. “You sign? You’re deaf?” & she made the biggest grin. A thread /1
I also couldn’t help but come up with a different idea of how this lady could communicate with her carers, who don’t sign … using what I know from the degree and my own experiences. That feeling knowing I made a real difference for someone is like no other. /4
First time returning to uni while working to recruit the next line of AHP’s & amazing to catch up with a fabulous lecturer @lisalmorgan4 too! #NHS#mySLTday#lpt
Recently attended NHS England’s Regional Specialised Rehab Conference. A fab day’s learning. Shout-out to @LeicesterNRU@UHLBIU for their inspiring presentations at the Regional Specialised Rehabilitation Conference. “Team work makes the Rehab work”. Proud is an understatement 👏
It involved adapting assessments to not discriminate against her blindness / thinking out the box to enable access to therapy for severe dyspraxia. We didn’t give up and found a consistent means of functional and personal communication. An incredible pt & journey I’m proud of.
Some pts I’ll remember forever and this is one. I didn’t fully realise the extent our impact had on this pt, until we said goodbye & pt / family cry. We were realistic from the start, therapy is long and tough with family unsure they’d ever converse again. See below. THREAD 1
It took over 6 months of practice, determination and perseverance by the pt and family, smashing expectations. We couldn’t have done it without our fabulous assistant @alievie14 thank you 🌟#teamworkmakesthedreamwork#communitySALT
Today was all about NURSES!
Thank you to the fantastic @LeicesterNRU for all your dedication and hardwork. Thank you to our OT assistant Sharon and HCA Niru for the delicious homemade tiramisu cupcakes and samosas 😋
SO sweet to see this today by one of the patients with severe expressive difficulties… for her to communicate / initiate this, write AND draw a star … her progress in just 2 months amazes me💪🏻💙 @LeicesterNRU#teamNRU
