What I bring to the table is ALL of me. You get my low socioeconomic background, child of divorce, Baptist, academic Honors, state champ track, theatre arts, custodial/tutoring working, 3rd gen college, DV survivor, sexual assault survivor, campus student leader, USAR 63J vet...
The Constitution barely survived today.
By a 5-4 vote, Trump’s Supreme Court declined to let him rewrite the Constitution and end birthright citizenship.
We’re hanging on by a thread. The fight to defend our democracy is far from over.
My son is autistic. Struggles socially. Birthday party coming up. Invited his whole class. Twelve kids. Three RSVPs. All no. My heart broke. His confusion. “Why doesn’t anyone want to come?”
Posted in the parent group. Honestly. Desperately. “My son has autism. Nobody’s coming to his party. If anyone can spare an hour. Please.”
Nine families showed up. Kids we didn’t know. Parents we’d never met. Brought presents. Played games. Sang happy birthday. Made it special. Made him feel loved. Chosen. Celebrated.
He cried happy tears. “Best birthday ever.” Didn’t know it was orchestrated. Didn’t know it was strangers being kind. Just knew people came. People cared. People celebrated him.
Those families stayed in our lives. Playdates. Parties. Friendships. Real ones. Built on compassion. On showing up. On choosing kindness.
One mom told me. “My son is autistic too. I know what it’s like. Nobody came to his party either. I swore I’d show up for other kids.”
Started a group.
Parents of special needs kids. Support. Community. Understanding. Thirty families now. All showing up. All celebrating. All making sure no kid feels forgotten.
My son is ten now. Has friends. Real ones. Invited to parties. Included. Accepted. Because strangers chose to show up when it mattered most. Taught a whole community what inclusion looks like.
Sometimes nine families showing up changes one child’s entire social trajectory.
Donald Trump does not decide who is American.
The Supreme Court affirmed a defining principle of this great nation:
If you are born on American soil, you are an American.
