Year 9 students became journalists, graphic designers and editors in order to create a newspaper for 'Handling the News Day' 2024 last week. Each front page was judged by award-winning journalist & Charters School Trustee, @jtoneysbeat. #unityrespectexcellence
Team English took some of the Year 7s to the Harry Potter Studios last week. Inspired by the current creative writing unit, 'Fantastic Places', some of our students are studying 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone'. The students were able to see various film sets.
In May, Miss Roberts and Miss Joel took their Year 13 English Literature class to see 'Twelfth Night' at the Regent's Park Open Air Theatre. This was an amazing opportunity for our students to see the text come alive as intended on stage and providing an opportunity for revision.
A big thank you to Mrs Phipps for organising and taking Year 11s with Team English to watch an adaptation of Robert Louis Stevensons Victorian Gothic Masterpiece, ‘Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’ at The New Wimbledon Theatre. It was great! 🎭 #unityrespectexcellence

Today Year 11 (Z side) students attended a ‘BIG Lecture’ delivered by Miss Roberts and Mrs Boorman in the Main Hall. They had the opportunity to focus on revision strategies and take part in tasks and activities designed to build up their confidence in the subject.
Miss Roberts’ Year 8 and Year 9 students wrote letters about pollution, racism, gender discrimination and school hours. They were then sent to the Prime Minster, Rishi Sunak. Downing Street very kindly took the time to read and reply to our students. A very proud moment. 📃 👏🏼
Students in Year 9 & 10 had the privilege of watching performances by @theglobeplayers of 'Macbeth' and 'Romeo & Juliet' on Friday. The actors had a strong focus on Shakespeare’s language and structure throughout their performance and even took questions from our students. 🎭
Miss Mair’s talented Year 7 students researched the 3 different genres of Shakespeare’s plays: tragedy, comedy and history. The students then completed some amazing work for the creative homework projects. You should be proud of yourselves! ❤️#UnityRespectExcellence
Year 7 completed these really artistic Macbeth posters after being inspired by reading and annotating Act 1, Scene 5. When Lady Macbeth just received a letter from her husband Macbeth where he describes meeting the three witches. 👑 🩸 🗡️ #UnityRespectExcellence
Year 9s started Macbeth this week with Miss Turner. She used props and the help of some enthusiastic students, to bring the play to life during a ‘whoosh’ activity which gives students a chance to act out key scenes and understand the plot and themes of the play. #unityrespect
