@jmproductionsyt@sk_griffith Obviously Yordan is on another level but Abreu was 7-for-12 in save opp. We still slide into the 25 postseason easily with Hader. But it's still probably a loss to the 2025 Jays either way.
@jmproductionsyt I'm shocked at how bad/none the bobble giveaways have been this season. How is [generic Alvarez] bobblehead or Imai or a last hurrah for Abreu not in the works???
@HSTPodcast So, what do you do then? Let Altuve sign with the Rangers and go into the Hall with their hat like Nolan Ryan? Baseball isn't all stats. There's heart and vibes, too.
Today is probably the wrong day for this post, but I am going to share it anyways because it is more enjoyable than discussing a team sitting 11 games under .500. All we know is that Lance McCullers is headed to the IL with yet another injury. With the 2026 season careening off the tracks, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on Lanceโs legacy, since it does not seem like he or anyone else will be pitching meaningful innings this fall.
Lance should be synonymous with the golden era of Houston baseball. He was a central figure in the baseball renaissance in this city. His career will always be tied to Carlos Correaโs, from the draft to their rise to the majors and the title they helped bring home. Other parallels are easy to see as well, like leadership roles in the clubhouse and careers shaped and limited by injuries.
Unlike so many other stars, Lance chose Houston. He directed his agent to negotiate a contract before he could test free agency. This was always where he wanted to be. After multiple injuries kept him from living up to that deal, there has been a sense that he wanted one last chance to write his final chapter here in 2026. That chapter ending with one more injury feels like a sad but fitting part of the story for a player whose career has been filled with them.
It is worth remembering how many times he pitched through injuries. In the 2018 postseason he pitched with a torn UCL. In 2021 he pitched on a scheduled rest day to close out the White Sox and hurt himself again. He came back in 2022 and was incredible until a freak injury derailed him in the postseason once again. In the long run, that leave it all on the field mentality may have done more harm to his health and legacy than good.
Although this may not be the end of the road, it's certainly coming soon. Some will choose to remember him for the 24 consecutive curveballs, a pair of titles, the locker room speeches, and the postgame sound bites. Others will focus on a contract that went sideways and a guy who could not recapture the greatness of his youth.
@maddiecholette I want to see him come back to Houston because he's my favorite player of all time, but he really has meshed so incredibly well with the Jays. Retiring as a Jay only feels right at this point imo.
@TyTalksBaseball@HMontesjr2012 Duran is not a really good fielder. He can't field the ball well. He can just throw it hard. The regression potential is far too real with him. At least you know Paredes will hit Crawford box jacks all season long.
@Unicorn17forev1 @jyujyu0314jyu Tucker was also booed quite heavily despite not being on the 2017 team, along with Yordan Alvarez (also not on the 2017 team) and Valdez (him either) at the LA All Star Game in 2022. Former Dodger and at the time Astros manager Dusty Baker was booed too. They have 0 loyalty...
@rationalyankee I understand not feeling confident in your own words but I can assure you your own prose is better than 5 paragraphs that all begin with, "it's not X for the Yanks, it's Y." It reads horrifically. The wording is too stiff to care to follow. Learn the tools to be concise yourself.
@CrawfordOutpost@SleeperAstros@AstrosJosh Will Wagner was DFA'd, Loperfido is a replacement tier OF at best in TOR, and Bloss needed TJS. Not sure how in the world that was a bad deal for HOU.
@shortsystemz@astro_numbers The rise of AI and the death of advertisement based funding. Sponsorship deals aren't being given to written media anymore.
@AstrosFansUK@JeremyBranham I think Dubon has great value as he can play SS in a pinch. Not sure we can get a cheaper utility guy who can play every IF position and every OF position.
@jmproductionsyt I ordered 3 different Alvarez '22 gold jerseys (Nike/Fanatics/Academy) and none of them ever shipped because they sold out day of. It haunts me daily. Even worse is that I didn't buy the '17 gold rush Gurriel because they didn't come in women's small. Cry.
