@davidemccune @mattyglesias @admcrlsn Most competitive/professional leagues haven’t allowed “self-selection.” There have typically been pretty strict requirements that no one who isn’t actually trans would ever meet just to play a sport.

Lia Thomas is one of the very few trans athletes to perform at a high level following protocols, and was still only ranked 34th.

@Denny_Ace87 @jemelehill It’s also almost always the case in college and pro sports that trans women who compete do certain gender affirming care that significantly reduces their biological advantages. That’s why you didn’t often see trans people dominating college sports pre-ban.

@Denny_Ace87 @jemelehill People who identify as women are typically doing things to affirm their identity, such as presenting as female outwardly, living as a woman socially, and getting gender affirming surgeries. Enes Kanter is not doing any of those things. Hope that helps.

@Denny_Ace87 @jemelehill In high level sports, that’s never been the standard, and it’s not what the science that’s favorable to trans people says. The only thing it proves, is that the WNBA is poorly run and failed to prepare for a grifter to try to make a stupid point.
