Coach Tippett was a rare leader of young men and someone who had a profound impact on my life.
I only played basketball for him freshman year before soccer fully took over. Although I was not a good basketball player, I loved being coached by him... he was more than that. 1/5
Sad news to report this evening. Legendary basketball coach Terry Tippett has died at the age of 79. Six state titles (only boys coach to win at three different schools), 902 wins (second-most in Shelby County), countless lives influenced. https://t.co/YWgAOqaPPi
5/5. Coach Tippett always cared. I know he’s a legendary coach, but he was more importantly a legendary, Godly man. I’ll miss him and many others will too. He leaves a “larger than life” legacy, rightfully so.
Thank you, Coach!
4/5. The following year, I came back to soccer with a different mindset… the rest is history. In part, I do not believe I would have had the courage to do so if it wasn’t for Coach Tippett. Keep in mind, I only played for him one year, and he never gave up on investing in me.

A historical moment for MLS.
