Hi there internet, my name is Chase and this is my public facing account for professional and school purposes. I look forward to participating in some really neat discussions with you all soon!
@VictoriousK4 Both these groups have stakes in different portions of the same problem. If Environmentalists could focus on showing others why it is a matter of public health, and vice versa, I believe a lot more progress could be made. #endenvironmentalinjustice
@Citizen4110 Totally! Small steps and actions can lead to big impacts at scale. Simply bringing your own reusable mug to Starbucks, or using a reusable straw and avoiding single-use products is a great and easy way to start. It'll even save you some money too! #greenitforward
Time for another question!
Q2: Do you know of any quick and easy ways you can reduce your carbon footprint? There are quite a few, what do you think is the most effective one? #greenitforward
@Citizen4110 Agreed! There are quite a few sectors that would benefit from decentralization. However this also comes with the issue of individual mindsets and incentives. If we want to feasibly shift load to the individual, we need to change the stigmas around it as well. #greenitforward

@ThePatchyDragon Very true! It will need to be a collective effort! The best place to start however should be in legislation; mandate good practices and get the public on board through effective programs and raising awareness. #greenitforward
Thank you all for participating in this discussion! I think its about time to wrap it up with a summary of what we discussed:
- Ways to reduce our impact on the environment
- The impact and effects of solar
- Making active decisions to be greener
#greenitforward
@shynee_boi Thats right! Those who argue against green energy often use those numbers to scare off potential interest. But when presented with context, its actually a lot less serious than they say. Let's work towards reducing the worst of it, then we'll work on optimizations #greenitforward
Lets throw out another question!
Q3: If you have a home (or in your future home), should you invest in solar? Is it worth the initial investment? What about the added carbon footprint from producing all those panels?
#greenitforward
@shynee_boi Exactly! While they can still be effective in different environments, it follows the theme of most green energies; Put it where it's most useful and can see the most benefits. Like wave power near the sea, solar in AZ, wind in Texas, etc. #greenitforward
@shynee_boi Absolutely! We have the technologies today to create effective systems and infrastructure, but we just don't have the policies and support to implement it. Hopefully, that will change in the years to come, its not a topic that can be ignored forever!! #greenitforward
Let's start off with our first question
Q1: Do you think residential recycling really makes a difference? Is it worth it to put the extra effort into sorting your waste? #greenitforward
Make sure to add "A1:" to your response so we can keep track of what question your answering
@ThePatchyDragon Sad but true. Solar does have some pretty big negative impacts, but over the lifetime of a panel, it can offset a lot more carbon than its production creates. I don't think solar should be avoided, but developed further. Micro nuclear is another good alternative! #greenitforward
@shynee_boi Those are some great contributions! You seem to be very involved in your actions and aware that every small choice leads to an equal environmental consequence. We need more people to adopt that mindset if we want to see some real change! #greenitforward
@Arzin_Phoenix Every small action leads to another. Your small actions contribute more than you know! Imagine if everyone picked up a single trash item off the street, or used a reusable coffee mug instead of a disposable one every day, thats a lot of trash!! #greenitforward
What are some personal activities or habits you may have that contribute to a greener planet? Feel free to list some things you may want to start doing soon too! #greenitforward
@shynee_boi Shopping local is a great way to contribute! Local stores and shops tend to have better accountability for their waste than large corporations. And the electric vehicle markets are consistently getting stronger. Lets hope for affordable EV's for all in the future! #greenitforward
@Drakora4 Same here! Most recycling programs today suffer from a lack of funding and interest and are therefore crippled. Since other countries have stopped accepting our waste, more pressure is on us than ever to refine our own systems and implement good waste habits. #greenitforward
Here are some simple ways you can start making a big impact right away:
- Eat less meat / shop organic
- Call your local representative and ask for environmental protections
- Start a home garden or compost
- Reduce your initial waste, avoid single-use packaging
#greenitforward
@ThePatchyDragon Those are some good points! Reducing consumption the first and best way to make an impact. One industry you might look at for their excessive footprint is the meat and poultry industries. Eating less red meat, or going to organic varieties can help a lot! #greenitforward
