The work is here.
The work is offline.
The work is online.
The work is presence.
The work is strategic absence.
The work is in the streets.
The work is in legislative halls.
The work is in art.
The work is in policies.
The work is at the polls.
The work is wherever we are.
‘There is always light.
Only if we are brave enough to see it.
There is always light.
Only if we are brave enough to be it.’
— National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman delivers a soaring poem at Pres. Biden’s inauguration
The next election will be here before you know it. We'll be electing county commissioners, city aldermen, school board, city/county mayors, and more.
I've run for office and helped others run too. Message me if I can lend a hand with your run for office!

Today is #NationalRunForOfficeDay!!!!

Dear politicians/political influencers:
When you tweet about my father’s birthday, remember that he was resolute about eradicating racism, poverty & militarism.
Encourage & enact policies that reflect your birthday sentiments.
Here’s the authentic #MLK:
“Lord, help me to accept my tools. However dull they are, help me to accept them. And then Lord, after I have accepted my tools, then help me to set out and do what I can do with my tools.” #MLK#SundayWithKing#BelovedCommunity
In this moment of unrest, violence and anger, we must remember the words of Dr. King, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” Let each of us try to be a light to see our country out of this dark moment.
Thousands of our friends, family, and neighbors are dying while our governor plays politics.
Safe a life. Stay home if you can.
And wear a damn mask.

It’s truly frustrating that myself and my Dem colleagues fought in March and June to address these issues. The GOP shot down every one of our amendments to address needed COVID funding for education.

Record turnout in TN, but now, after all votes are counted in 50 states + DC, TN is still 48th.
Better than our 50th position after 2014 election, but we still have a lot of work to do.
TX proves what strategic investment can do. It has moved up 5 spots, from 51st, in 2014.
Because @GovBillLee has failed to take the most basic steps to protect Tennesseans, we are in a crisis where he has to call in the National Guard to deal with overwhelmed hospitals and literally thousands of preventable deaths.
Want to know the secret to winning elections in rural communities? There's not one.
There's no silver bullet, magic answer, or white knight coming to the rescue.
It's on each of us to show up and put in the hard work or organizing.

TN Dems - you're likely seeing lots of election post-mortems along with ideas/plans from people running to be our state party chair. As an organizer and past candidate, keep this in mind - a future Democratic majority runs through rural communities.

A good place to start is through the rural caucus.
If you want things to change, you've got to get involved. There's no white knight coming to save us. We're the ones that have to step up for things to change.

We need rural organizers at the core of our plans for the next decade. Without that, we won't make any real progress at the state/local levels.
It won’t be easy. We’ll have to fight for every inch of ground that we gain. But to do anything less is not an option.
