In 2019, Attorney General Mike Hunter entered into a historically large settlement with Purdue Pharmaceuticals over opioid addiction. The settlement was structured and publicly justified around an Oklahoma-centered addiction research and treatment effort housed at OSU. This entity was called the National Center for Addiction Studies and Treatment (NCAST), chaired by the OSU president and with board appointments by the Governor, the Speaker of the House, and the President Pro Tempore.

In a strange turn of events last year, OSU President Jim Hess and appointees by elected leaders were removed from the board. OSU was sent a $20 million check and was instructed that it was in their best interest to leave the rest behind.

The Foundation, comprised of former Purdue employees, retained the remaining $180 million of settlement funds without any oversight by the State of Oklahoma.

Who brokered this sweetheart deal to remove these funds from State oversight? 

Attorney General Gentner Drummond.

Oklahomans were told that the Purdue settlement would serve the State’s fight against the opioid crisis through an OSU-connected institution. Instead, six years later, those funds were redirected to third-party control facilitated by the State’s chief legal officer and unaccountable to any public institution or elected body.

Why did he engage in a backroom deal with ex-pharma employees that removed public oversight from these funds?

Oklahomans deserve answers.

For row cropping the usual wares are grown alongside increased amounts of flax, cotton, and hemp. We will need a LOT more of those to feed the textile mills supplying the country with fabrics after the Plastic Ban.

Thousands of small towns fortified with 6 story single stair and ADU apartments, bike lanes and thriving local businesses and churches with pews full of young people. Weddings every weekend and babies in strollars a common site.

Yes, fixing this aquifer would do all that.
