Would anybody like to host #MLTchat tomorrow evening at 8pm? Any topic regarding middle leadership! Hit up @HoDandHeart in the DMs, or via this page. 😊
Any of you lovely middle leaders want to hold court on Wednesday and host #MLTchat? Topics surrounding curriculum, pedagogy, pastoral leadership all welcome! Just get in touch via this page, or with @MrsRileyEng!
@ChatMLT @MrsRileyEng Plan the timing - try to work out the best time of day to have the most effective conversation. Try to avoid leaving the other person stewing on it & getting stressed.
@ChatMLT Start with self reflection and be honest- what is my role in this and how could I have done things differently ? Get that straight and understand the motivations and point of departure of the other person. #mltchat
@ChatMLT @MrsRileyEng Know exactly what the specific issue is eg this teaching strategy doesn't appear to be working well, let's try using XYZ instead. Make it about the practice not the person. Put everything in writing for follow up conversations and check ins.
Thanks for joining, ladies and gents. It seems to me that 'difficult' conversations really don't need to be that difficult at all. Plan, preempt, practise, provide solutions. #MLTchat
See you next week.
If you're interested in hosting, please get in touch with @MrsRileyEng!
@ChatMLT Seek advice if you need it. Practise with someone else if you need it. Don’t be afraid to ask for advice simply because you have ‘leader’ in your title; we’re all learners! #MLTchat
@rjmcdonald24 @ChatMLT Really good point about considering the person. It’s important to know the team to know how to approach the conversation #MLTChat
@ChatMLT Script it. Talk it through with LM. Practise it. Keep it personal. But also make it clear what the problem is and the outcome you expect. Finally be ‘serious’. (as in they know the conversation is challenging not have a strange look on your face) #MLTChat
@MrMurray_Towers@ChatMLT And we don’t have those difficult conversations just for students, we have them because we care for our staff. Allowing errors, flaws or neglect to persist is akin to approving them, and that benefits no-one; we simply sacrifice the staff because of our own fears.
