I am so humbled and incredibly grateful to share that after NINE long, grueling years, I matched into my dream career as a dermatologist!!!!!!!!Words can’t express how much this means to me. IT WAS ALL WORTH IT.
#dermtwitter#Match2023
#UNMATCHED after #MATCH2024 and #SOAP2024. This is my second time applying dermatology, and I also applied anesthesiology this cycle. I am currently completing a preliminary year in internal medicine. Derm research fellowship/position is optimal, but I am open to any job
@carolsdermdream I think another thing to think about is the equity of this whole process. Some applicants will have tons of experiences as they have the privilege to access those whereas others may be from areas with less opportunity.
Reading a residency app and the majority of their experiences are non academic activities they do in their free time. Its actually really refreshing and I feel like I got a better picture of who they are than the typical format #Match2024
@carolsdermdream I see your point, however, I do think it’s important to be involved in other things other than just your specialty. I think you can lump several of your career related exp under one experience box and you also have your personal statement to showcase your interest.
The next day on rounds, my attending asked if they had any questions. The family looked at me and said “no she answered everything for us”. 🥹 Being able to give peace and comfort is worth so much more than tx alone and is what makes medicine so meaningful to me . #MedTwitter
I had to tell a pt and their family their cancer was terminal and they only had a few weeks left. As an intern, it felt like I didn’t have enough knowledge or expertise to be counseling someone on such a severe diagnosis. After ~hr of counseling, they decided to pursue hospice.
@AlexisA417 Take patient weight in kg and divide by 2.
100kg/2=50
Now take that number and divide by 2
50/2=25
25 will be lantus (glargine long acting)
Take the other 25/3 (for 3 meals) =~8
Your short acting (lispro) is 8units per meal
@sarcomapathdoc I have not, however, having just gone through that, I’m pretty confident MH is poor. However, unlike the burden of chronic skin disease, we could change the application process to make it less stressful…
Most of my research is focused on mental health in #dermatology. I’ve come across this paper a few times now and this line gets me every time. Personally feel that 2 minutes is not unreasonable, and you don’t need to be an expert. Just need to care. #dermtwitter#medtwitter
@aghawk99 It hurts our scalp to keep it up in a ponytail due to the weight lol I keep it down as long as I can tolerate lol also avoiding traction alopecia
@ovaryactingPGY0 @fooshbby be better to one another. There have been many times I’ve felt not good enough for this career, and I’m sure you have too. To have just graduated and perpetuate this through belittling a peer on social media is sad.
@ovaryactingPGY0 @fooshbby It seems like the issue is the words that were said, not the specialty. I think we’ve all endured enough belittling through this training process, and seen enough of our peers literally die from lack of support/toxic work environments that I would hope our generation would
@kellymkimball@carlylogan26 I’ve published here- I was able to cover the fee with a grant I applied for through my medical school. Perhaps your residency program has similar grants you can apply for?
