BRAKPAN POLICE SERGEANT SENDS A VOICE NOTE ON WHATSAPP, AFTER KILLING WIFE, IMJURING FOUR FAMILY MEMBERS, BEFORE KILLING HIMSELF

Authorities are investigating a tragic family shooting in Brakpan North, Sheerwood Gardens, Ekurhuleni, in which a woman was killed and four relatives, including two children, were wounded on Monday evening, 2025-08-26.

The alleged gunman sergeant Siboniso Brian Mngadi (40) attached to Brakpan SAPS, shot and killed his wife Lungile Cornelia Mngadi (Mbatha).

According to preliminary information, police were alerted to gunfire at a residence in McMillan Street, Brakpan, shortly after 20:00. Upon arrival, officers and a private security guard discovered three women who had sustained gunshot wounds. Paramedics declared one of them dead at the scene. She was later identified as the sergeant’s wife, Lungile Cornelia Mbatha.
The wife’s mother and a domestic worker were injured during the incident. Two children, aged 15 and 13, belonging to Mabatha's brother, were also shot but managed to escape and seek help at a nearby house on Walkden Street.

Reports suggest that all victims were shot by the police sergeant, who was not present when law enforcement arrived. His wife was found in the bedroom with multiple gunshot wounds, while the other victims were discovered in the passage.
The injured were rushed to different hospitals for urgent medical care.

Sophisticated tunnel heist hits FNB branch in Germiston

A group of robbers carried out a daring and meticulously planned heist at the FNB branch on Victoria Street in Germiston on 22 April 2025 leaving authorities stunned.

The suspects reportedly tunneled into the bank, with the point of entry believed to be from a nearby Nedbank property. Investigators found damage to the floor of the neighboring building, suggesting it served as the launch point for the underground passage.

Once inside the bank, the robbers used industrial grinders to breach two safes, escaping with an undisclosed sum of cash. In a further display of precision, they managed to disable both the CCTV cameras and the alarm system, effectively covering their tracks and delaying detection.

The Germiston SAPS and forensic experts, led by Warrant Officer Sehlangu, swiftly responded to the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. However, no arrests have been made, and the suspects remain at large.

Authorities have launched a full investigation into the heist, which has raised concerns over security vulnerabilities at financial institutions in the area.
