Stunning light in the apse of the Trinity Church of the Abbaye aux Dames, Caen. The Abbey was founded by Matilda of Flanders, wife of William the Conqueror and later Queen of England. Her tomb is in the chancel.

King John died #OnThisDay 1216. He lied constantly, fathered an unknown number of illegitimate children, alienated his European allies, ignored the Rule of Law, and was eventually brought down by a rebellion of his own barons.
That service was a shining example of why we should treasure music in schools - and why we cannot measure the worth of an education against "future earnings".
Everything that humans value can be expressed in music. It's a source of riches beyond anything captured in GDP.
