So proud to have lab member and MS student Emily Macklin recognized as the 2023 recipient of the Kenneth H. Hussman Memorial Scholarship in recognition of her work on avian species !!🐦⬛
Awarded by the South Dakota Ornithologists Union
In the 1990s, river otters in South Dakota were nearly extinct. After reintroduction efforts, the population slowly grew. Now, two #SDState researchers are attempting to learn more about the state's river otter population and habitat needs.

The river otter was taken off SD's threatened species list in 2020, but @AECheeseman's lab is using AI tools to better understand their distribution, habitat needs, & more. Info on her research is in this recent SDState News article: https://t.co/gJKofky6KA
