This is such a bullshit take. Didn’t we discover like 20 years ago through games like World of Warcraft that many major popular titles were 50% or more women? Different games have different audiences.

I grew up playing tons of games starring essentially the same dude and I had a great time because I like games. Now I can play as women in some titles or people of color in other titles and miraculously the world doesn’t end. If it’s a good game, I enjoy it. If it’s not a good game, I don’t enjoy it.

But there’s this whole subset of the community that wants to prematurely tank games because they can’t handle not being the sole customer anymore.
