A9. My WHY is the same. I do have moments when I am frustrated and consider if I should do something else. After I calm down, I realize that I just need to handle the things I can control. Teaching can be so frustrating b/c you need other people to perform to succeed .#mhspln
A3. I believe that those who experience regular trauma have a harder time learning. I also read that most students need also to be taught about behaviors, customs, norms for situations of middle/upper class in order for them to class jump #mhspln
A6. Many teachers take themselves way too seriously. I mess up often. Students love to point it out. Instead of getting mad, I compliment. Also, I try to model difficult processes in front of them. Let them see how messy learning is for anyone #mhspln
I greet mine everyday with a smile, eye contact and a handshake/high five. I memorize all fist and last names in the first week and let them watch me struggle as I learn. They keep journals and I leave them notes after I read entries. I celebrate and compliment them often #mhspln
A4. I def remember telling a student that “successful people find a way” or using the phrase “figure it out.” Although they may need to hear it at some point, I have realized that some need me to set them up so they will be ready later when a boss says it to them #mhspln
Working at MHS the past 10 years has opened my eyes to so many atrocities our students face. I still find I have biases b/c of middle class upbringing. #mhspln
