Kathy Bates says she was sure she never thanked her mother in her Misery Oscar speech, then the interviewer showed her the tape
"She gave up her retirement because I was born so late in life to them."
"When I won the Oscar for Misery, she said, I don't know what all the excitement about, you didn't discover the cure for cancer."
"Why did I think I didn't thank her?"
"Because she should have had my life."
"I wanted her spirit to come into me and enjoy everything I was enjoying because of what she'd given up."
Her mom's whole review of the Oscar was that she didn't cure cancer, and Kathy still believed she had shorted her that night. Then she watches herself thank her mom at home, right there in the speech. Some people never stop trying to pay their parents back. You can hear it in how quiet she gets at the end.

“On top of the world, like Ye at SoFi.”
“My n***a [Lil] Wayne, gave me the game, that’s Yodi. My n***a Nas, took me to 8 figures, after taxes.”
“And I still can’t f**k with Justin Timberlake, gentrified the Rap game, we only asked to renovate.”
Some voices become part of the sound of home. Peta Alleyne’s was one of them.
She held up a mirror to Barbadian life, with all our familiar habits and contradictions. We recognised our neighbours and, sometimes a little uncomfortably, ourselves. Her wit and attention to detail captured the little things that make us who we are.
As Barbados approaches 60 and five, we mourn another voice that helped shape our culture and tell our stories.
My thoughts and prayers are with her son, Ade, her family, and her CBC and Laff-it-Off families.
Thank you, Peta, for helping us see ourselves, laugh at ourselves and love what makes us Barbadian. May you rest in peace.
I feel like a lot of people are feeling empty and turning to religion , and as great as that is ..there is a lot of religious psychosis going on and it’s scaryyyyyyy
