Good to know that the UK is playing a central role in supporting the UN’s renewed efforts to bring about a democratic, united #Libya. What happens in Libya will matter hugely to us all.
Real pleasure to spend time with #MoinKikhia over the last few days. Chair of the Libyan Democratic Institute, Moin is one of Libya’s most important political thinkers. In various high level meetings here he reminded us that what happens in Libya next will really matter to the UK
Perhaps #DonaldTrump won the election because he was bilingual ! Chelgate Chairman, Terence Fane-Saunders explains in the latest edition of "Opinion Battlegrounds", the Chelgate podcast.

President of @CIoJournalist Gerald Bowey has letter in the Times this morning. (Behind paywall) See: https://t.co/M38zTjqtwq In response to The Times's leading article regarding a campaign to honour journalists killed in wars.
Some good news for Aunt Beeb at last. Samir Shah to become Chairman of BBC. Superb appointment. I’ve worked on and off with Samir for decades. He gave me my start in BBC political shows. His production company made the legendary This Week on BBC1. That alone qualifies him! He’s a brilliant broadcaster. Smart, focussed, across the issues, fiercely independent. I wish him all good fortune in the job. He’ll need it!
Citizens of the United Kingdom. It is our solemn duty to start eating Tunnock’s delicious products as much as possible. A world without Tunnock’s would not be worth living in! Please retweet.
The @BBC has announced huge cuts to @BBCNewsnight as part of just released savings & digital reinvestment plans. The show will be shortened to 30 mins and become an “interview, debate and discussion show”. Reporter and other roles are being axed.
I am hearing terrifying, heartbreaking figures relating to the number of #migrants who had gathered at the #Derna port in #Libya and were simply swept away. These numbers utterly dwarf the horror of the 650 killed in June’s sinking off the Greek coast .
As Libya reels from the horrors of the past 24 hours, I think this website post by Moin Kikhia ( Chair of the Libyan Democratic Institute) is absolutely on the mark
I fear that the climate disasters sweeping the globe this year are just the beginning. A future of quite hideous suffering for hundreds of millions lies ahead unless our governments ( and those who elect them) can find the courage & integrity to act on climate now.
Hearing horrendous reports of the catastrophic storm damage in eastern #Libya. I think the early media death toll estimates fall well short of the nightmare reality. A country which has seen so much international interference now needs and deserves true international assistance .
This week is very special. My friend and colleague, Mathew Lane, completes 25 years working at #Chelgate. Congratulations Mathew, and the greatest thanks for all you have done.
@CMShehbaz A very important conference. Much of the world has been too focused on its own needs and problems, and paid far too little attention to the horrendous nightmare that the floods have inflicted on Pakistan
