Coming from a community that used to practice this, I can totally understand. Lots of women end up with fistula and long term infections because of FGM. Lucky in Uganda, it was illegalized and took the govt a lot of effort.
It is still legal in Somalia and it is a pity. The numbers of deaths because of FGM are undocumented. But this all narrows down to one thing, misogyny.
It is so sad that it’s the older women have been brainwashed into thinking it saves the girls fornication, when in actual sense it is generational trauma.
