One of the things that has a really good chance of keeping me from entering into pastoral work again will be the reel playing in the back of my mind that’s just people calling me “little girl” and “young lady.” Having the title of Pastor and being seen as one are not the same.
@brower_greg Some things were malicious, but more came from pplcarrying a lack of honor/respect without realizing it - subconscious infantilizing of women in general & me, who is petite and looks younger than my age. Can’t change my physical attributes & can’t change how ppl respond to it.
White folks understand the importance of representation. That’s why the right is so adamantly against “diversity” in books, movies, commercials, etc. They know the power of representation and would like to keep that power for themselves.
@benirwin I want to say that it was the topic alone that sent me to publicly address her, but I think my daughter being present was the extra layer of rage that put it over the edge. Something for me to digest. But either way, I'm glad the courage was there.
There is a woman I have learned to tolerate at my local coffee shop who has loud conversations with eager listeners about end times prophecies and conspiracy theories. She claims to hear directly from God. Yesterday, I yelled at her 😬
She complained to the barista, then rage-packed her things and left. I later explained to the barista what was said. She, a conservative Christian herself, was horrified. I wonder what, if anything, will be done.
I was shaking. The knives shooting from my eyes! One person who was intently listening to this "prophet" looked up at me and saw it coming. I don't even remember what I said, but it included "anti-semitic," "disgusting," "and keep that bullshit away from my 4yo."
@getmecoffeestat I’m so proud of you!!!! You know what I was just thinking about? That almost every choice I’ve made in my life that I’m most proud of were choices to quit something. Not that you “quit,” per se, but you chose yourself. This is good. This is beautiful.
Hey, men who are with women. Ever say things like…
“Have you seen the …”
“Tell me what to do and I’ll do it”
“But I do so much around here”
“Why didn’t you ask me to do it?”
“I do more than my friends”
“Let me know if I can help”
Then let’s talk about mental load. 1/
Hubs is tuning the piano and his tester song is the piano riff to “Boston.” I love it! I love it. I love him. Don’t try and pretend you don’t melt a little when you hear those notes.
