I keep getting what I call 'build it and they will come' messages: "I don't know if you can help me with ___, but you seem to know everyone. I would love your recommendation. I trust and respect you."
The ‘build it and they will come’ is building your network and your influence.
Build it and they will come. Any truth to that phrase?
Master this skill, and you'll stop worrying where your next sale, lead, or referral will come from. Become known for this, and you'll continually have high-vibe, powerful conversations with like-minded people.
Constantly.
Everyday I focus on building my network.
Making new connections, connecting people within my network, the referral process in general - is a great way to build.
Oh, and compliments. Give them freely and give them often.
You’re awesome, you’re unique, and you’ve got this!
There are two reasons for this:
One is because the extra mile isn’t as commonly traveled as other roads.
The other is because there’s a bigger force at play.
The universe rewards effort. How much are you putting in?
I like getting to a few big networking events each quarter, then bringing the names I gather into my online tracking system…
THEN connecting on Facebook or Linkedin, and finding ways to add value.
Because that's how you start really rich conversations.
If someone feels like competition on face value, what if you thought, "Could we have an alliance?"
"Could we let each other know about networking events we are going to?"
"Maybe we could have side by side booths, because people are going to be interested in one or the other."
If you go into networking thinking, "This could be a sale," fine, it could be, but that’s playing small ball.
It could be they become a referral source, especially if you are good at articulating who you are looking for.
It could also be an alliance. Think about that.
Being outnumbered probably means others don’t think you’re realistic.
That’s ok. Great leaders are rarely realistic by other people’s standards.
My wish is that you decide to be unrealistic, outnumbered, and remove the limits your ever-loving peers place on you. You got this.
I'm in relationship building for the long hall.
What I’ve found is you can add value to your relationships, new or old, even before you bring up what you do.
It frames you as being a consultant, someone who is helpful above and beyond needing something back immediately.
Change can represent so many things - growth, new life...
Change separates the “haves” from the “have-nots”. Because the “haves” take that opportunity to get better at what they do.
Are you searching for change on your biz journey? How do you respond to it?
Givers gain. So when I'm out networking, I'm always listening.
If I hear something that's obviously "Oh my god, I could help them with my products or business" I'm not gonna ignore that.
But I'm also listening for a way I could add value w/o mentioning my products or business.
The three elements of a follow up system should be:
1 Calendar - knowing your time and availability, when you're following up with someone
2 Database - to know what you're working off of, and
3 Relationship notes
As an entrepreneur you need to take the lead based on faith in your own vision and ability. It's not up to anyone else to build your belief.
If you need to borrow some belief while you build your own. You can borrow some of mine.
I believe in you.
Doing follow ups isn't sexy work, but it's a do that you gotta do.
Ever done speed networking and left with a card and you're like, "Shoot, who was this person?"
My best approach is to say "I'm writing down your name, and one thing that stands out so I can refer to you."
Not knowing what to do with someone for follow-up is a symptom of not having a BAMFAM rhythm in your biz.
Stay in control of your biz, but don't be pushy.
I had a poll in my FB group, the Tribe Of Intentional Entrepreneurs. This topic was the most desired and most needed.
Will the stars align for 2 busy people to magically reconnect? Not usually. Look at how you can link people back into the next touch, the next follow-up.
You want 1st touches in your books, but most sales happen on the 5th or more touches of follow-ups.
BAMFAM. Booking a meeting from a meeting.
This makes sense in traditional network marketing. But if you're working online, how do you BAMFAM?
Are the stars going to align for 2 busy people to magically reconnect? No. Join my FB group - Tribe Of Intentional Entrepreneurs.
Being on the right track means you’re continually growing. And to grow means you’re continually going uphill.
Looking back is like going downhill. Lamenting over regrets, wishing instead of doing, not having a high vision...let’s not develop these landslide habits.
