Again, NC was added later into the genre to appease to women. BLs were just love stories in the 70s.

@keywestgrrl @firstkattp BLs are about the love story. They can have a build & payoff without NC scenes. No, there is nothing wrong with BLs that do have explicit sense. However, it isn’t ALWAYS needed & a show can be great without them.

@keywestgrrl @firstkattp Do you base every single romance you watch off of NC scenes alone? ‘Cause even straight romances don’t always have NCs & are still considered great. If you only think BLs HAVE to have sex scenes but don’t hold anything else up to that standard, then it comes off as fetishizing.

@keywestgrrl @firstkattp I never said NC scenes are bad. I said BLs shouldn’t rely solely on them & they don’t all NEED them. I love me a good BL with a good sex scene. However, I love me a good one without them too.
Also, BLs did not start out with NC content, even in manga. Look it up.

A great BL needs a wonderful love story & amazing writing. It does not need sex scenes. Especially if it’s based around teens/minors.

I started watching Asian dramas as a whole in 2014 & at some point that same year, I started watching BL too. I don’t remember if the Takumi Kun series movies were the first, but they were one of the first.

@itsshaqii GIIIIIIRL!! I just finished the episode! If you’re not that caught up, it can be very confusing. Psycho exes are involved. But the episode (a crossover between Emmerdale & Coronation Street) was great & it looks like RobRon are FINALLY on a decent track to happiness 😭💕
