About time you started to learn some of that ‘shared history’. Oh it goes deep all right: - English state treachery, genocide, use of the populations of Scotland, Ireland and Wales as cannon fodder or (Scots) as empire administrators, the extraction of wealth (continuing), the enrichment of a tiny native elite whose ‘largesse’ to cities like Glasgow and Dundee is celebrated as evidence of the prosperity bought by empire 🤮 and the story of a desperate population forced to seek survival elsewhere (biggest loss of population to outward emigration anywhere continuing for 200 years) repackaged as a joyful embrace of the English empire. All colonisers rewrite and repackage their criminal history as one of shared history, collaboration and prosperity. These lies add insult to an already profound and longstanding injury. You celebrate a reassuring but ultimately vicious British myth. We carry the wounds of centuries in our DNA.
