Yesterday, I walked out of a meeting where a presentation of concern was made regarding a case.

Delivered with sincerity and backed by data, key points were clearly laid out. However, the other party chose not to engage with any of them. Instead, they deliberately misunderstood every word, data point, and piece of evidence. Every counterargument I presented was met with a strong, opinionated tone.

Because of how I look [you know what I mean here], I used to feel the need to overextend my point just to be heard. But yesterday, despite the anger building up and the temptation to deliver a corporate clapback, I held my ground. I smiled and said, “I think you’ve misunderstood me. I won’t challenge your judgment, but I will stand firm on the value I bring to this cause. I appreciate you giving me the time to present my ideas.”

A silence followed. The deep chatter faded into gossip mode, and I walked out.

Later in the day, he texted: “I read through everything you wrote and analyzed it. You made great points. If you have more suggestions, let me know.”

There’s no deep lesson here. I just wanted to remind you: no one should walk over your ideas or mute your value. True value continues to speak, even in your silence.
