Polyoxometalate-Assisted Crystallization of Radium Complexes—#Radium (Ra) coordination chemistry remains largely unexplored due to the extreme radiological hazards associated with ²²⁶Ra. In a recent article in @J_A_C_S, Engle, Deblonde, White, Thiele, and co-workers report a polyoxometalate (POM)-assisted crystallization strategy that enables single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies of Ra–chelator complexes using only microgram-scale material. Using a #Keggin-type #polyoxometalate as a stabilizing scaffold, the authors successfully isolated and structurally characterized Ra²⁺ complexes with 18-crown-6 and the bis-picolinate macrocycle macropa, alongside their Sr²⁺ and Ba²⁺ analogues. This approach provides a powerful new route to accessing and comparing the coordination chemistry of heavy alkaline earth metals under highly constrained experimental conditions. Full article:

In 2012, we reported the first solid-state halide perovskite solar cell, introducing a concept that was far from obvious at the time. This Perspective revisits how that idea emerged, the experimental path that led to it, and how the field evolved from those early results. It also helps clarify aspects of the early history that have become blurred over time.

As experienced synthetic organometallic chemist, you may think Na and Li are not exciting. But you are wrong - here is an opportunity to do some genuinely "crazy" group-1 metal chemistry!
