Elon Musk: SpaceX will build a mass driver on the Moon.

"If you want to go beyond a mere terawatt per year, you have to go to the Moon. Factories on the Moon, building AI satellites, and a mass driver the kind of thing you'd normally only read about in science fiction. But we're going to make it real. We're actually going to build a mass driver on the Moon."

He explains the scale: "If you do that, you can go several orders of magnitude greater up to 1,000 gigawatts or more per year, and eventually a millionth, then a thousandth, maybe even a few percent of the Sun's total energy."

His vision goes further than the engineering: "I really want to see the mass driver on the Moon, shooting AI satellites into deep space, one after another. I can't imagine anything more epic than a mass driver on the Moon and a self-sustaining city there then going beyond, to Mars, throughout our solar system, and eventually out among the stars. Maybe we'll meet aliens. Maybe we'll find civilizations that lasted millions of years, or the remnants of ancient ones. But the only way we ever find out is if we actually go out and explore. That's the path to making it happen."
