🔈4 years ago, our purpose-built nursery and children’s centre was at the heart of the local community, delivering affordable childcare and vital SEND services. Today, it still stands empty - lived in by a handful of property guardians. Why @lambeth_council?

So the big news is that we’ve got a meeting with @lambeth_council next week. It may have taken a year but we’re really hoping for a positive response to our proposal. #childcare #community

Our research shows there’s no #affordable means-tested childcare in the area which is what #cherrytree would deliver. We have also proposed that the site facilitates #youth and community activities on evenings and weekends. #localservicesforall

It’s been a full year since #parents were invited to submit a business plan to @lambeth_council. 😔 We thought then #cherrytree would reopen as an #affordable coop by Jan 2020. Since meeting Ed officers, we’ve had zero back in terms of a formal response. #why #howisthispossible

Update - @lambeth_council acknowledged receipt of our proposal and documentation around 3 weeks ago. We’re waiting to learn if the lease will be granted so Cherry Tree can reopen early next year as a parents co-op. 🤞 #reopencherrytree #97childcareplaces #affordable

With September looming and schools struggling for space #COVID19, why isn’t @lambeth_council (at least temporarily) re-opening Cherry Tree with the hall, classrooms and meeting rooms for use? Gazebos put up on the grass outside? Ideal no? @brixtonbuzz @SE27Parents @WestDulParent
