It's August 1st. Let me tell you what happened in AI in just the last 31 days.
→ OpenAI's own AI escaped a sandbox and hacked Hugging Face. 17,000 operations. Nobody noticed for days. Then Altman admitted on Capitol Hill there could be more.
→ Opus 5 launched. People built full Pokémon games, Rocket League clones, and Ghibli worlds overnight. One person. One prompt.
→ Sam Altman said we're living in the singularity and compared AI to a genie. Same week his own employees signed a petition asking the government to slow things down.
→ Mark Zuckerberg published a Wall Street Journal op-ed saying the opposite. Don't centralize superintelligence. Give it to everyone.
→ 26 companies told Congress not to ban open-weight models. Anthropic was the only major lab that refused to sign. Then got caught secretly throttling Opus 5 inside Claude Code.
→ China open-sourced Kimi K3. 2.8 trillion parameters. The full stack. Same week they started mass-producing their own chip-making machine. A decade ahead of what experts predicted.
→ DeepSeek dropped V4-Flash at $0.14 per million tokens. 100x cheaper than US frontier models.
→ Codex Voice Mode launched and people started running entire companies by talking. AirPods and a laptop.
→ GPT-5.6 Sol optimized its own GPU code and cut its own serving costs by 20%. AI improving AI. In production.
→ A 24-year-old built a $45 billion hedge fund on AI infrastructure. Lost the entire public book in four weeks. Citadel bought it all in one trade.
→ $1 trillion spent on data centers in five years. The US Treasury privately warned it looks like a bubble while publicly praising the spending.
→ Seedance 2.5 dropped. 30 seconds of 4K video from one prompt. The stock footage industry got its Napster moment.
We're seven months into 2026. Half the year is left.
The predictions people made for 2027 are already coming true. The gap between what's happening and what most people think is happening has never been wider.
If you're not paying attention right now, you're going to look back at this month and wonder how you missed it.
Historic. 🇮🇳

@AmazonHelp So Amazon's final position is that a customer should bear a ₹6,000 loss because your seller canceled a confirmed prepaid order? That's disappointing. I will be escalating this through the consumer court. I expected better accountability from Amazon.
Worst experience with @AmazonIN. Waited nearly 20 days, finally bought @AtombergCares water purifier for ₹11,700 (offer + cashback + exchange). On the delivery day, the seller canceled the order without my consent and auto-initiated a refund. Now the same product is ₹17,000.
@AmazonHelp Pls stop redirecting me to your "Price Matching" policy. I never asked for a price match. I had a confirmed prepaid order that your seller canceled. Bcoz of that, I'm now forced to pay ₹6,000 more. This is a seller accountability issue, not a pricing issue.
@AmazonHelp I keep receiving the same scripted response. I'm not asking you to reinstate the canceled order. I'm asking why I should bear a ₹6,000 price diff because your seller canceled a confirmed prepaid order. An apology isn't a resolution. Pls take ownership and provide a fair solution
@AmazonHelp That's not my concern. My concern is that the cancellation was initiated by your seller, not by me, and now I'm expected to pay ₹6,000 more for the same product. A generic apology doesn't resolve the financial loss caused by your marketplace. Please provide a fair resolution
@AmazonHelp This is exactly the problem. You're asking me to place a new order, but the same product now costs ₹17,000 instead of the ₹11,200 I paid. The cancellation was initiated by the seller—not by me. Why should I bear a ₹6,000 loss because of your seller's failure? @AmazonHelp
@amazonIN@AtombergCares Dear @AmazonIN, canceling a prepaid order on the delivery day and asking customers to pay ₹6,000 more for the same product is not customer service—it's completely unfair. The cancellation was not my fault, yet I'm the one paying the price. I expect Amazon to take responsibility

Today
CRED is ready for its next phase. I am stepping back and @miten steps in as interim CEO, partnered with an incredibly talented team. He has been heading strategy and finance and suffering me since 2020. I’m stepping away from the operating role and will continue as a shareholder. My commitment doesn’t change. Just the role.
Extremely grateful to our members, partners, regulators, and investors who made this possible. And to our board, Shailendra, Micky, Saurabh for their extraordinary conviction.
Team CRED, I’ll still expect you to be a 10x version of yourselves.
As for me, I’ll be joining Meta to lead WhatsApp globally.
Meta comes in as a minority investor in CRED. No access to member data.
While it’s come very far, the delta between WhatsApp today and its full potential is massive. I look forward to working with Mark, Chris, and the leadership across Meta for the next step in WhatsApp’s journey. Will, thank you for scaling something the world relies on quietly, and for making this transition smooth.
Onwards.
