ESKOM THREATENS TO CUT POWER TO JOHANNESBURG OVER R5.2 BILLION DEBT
Eskom has officially issued a notice of intention to reduce, interrupt, or completely cut electricity supply to parts of Johannesburg.
The power utility says the City of Johannesburg and City Power currently owe R5.25 billion in arrears — not including the current account of another R1.58 billion due on 5 June.
Eskom says the City has repeatedly failed to honour its Electricity Supply Agreement and has now run out of patience. If the debt is not settled, power cuts could begin as early as 8 July.
This threat has sent shockwaves through Africa’s economic hub, with residents and businesses already struggling with high electricity costs and unreliable supply.
The City of Johannesburg is currently in emergency talks to try and avoid a blackout.

SHOCK IN COURT: JOE “FERRARI” SIBANYONI CASE STRUCK OFF THE ROLL
In a dramatic twist, the high-profile extortion and money laundering case against well-known Mpumalanga taxi boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni and his co-accused was thrown out of court on Monday.
The case was struck off the roll at the Kwaggafontein Magistrate’s Court after the state prosecutor failed to appear in court for the bail hearing.
A visibly frustrated magistrate issued a warrant of arrest for the missing prosecutor and struck the matter off the roll. The National Prosecuting Authority has since suspended the prosecutor and is now considering whether to reinstate the case.
Sibanyoni, who owns a large fleet of taxis and has business interests in mining, construction, and IT, was arrested together with three others for allegedly demanding over R2 million in “protection fees” from a businessman in the Kwaggafontein area.
For now, Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni walks free — but this story is far from over.

WESTERN CAPE STORM DAMAGE: CLEANUP & RECOVERY OPERATIONS IN FULL SWING
The Western Cape is still picking up the pieces after a series of powerful cold fronts and storms that caused widespread destruction.

MAJOR DRUG MANUFACTURING LAB BUSTED IN NORTH WEST – R100 MILLION SEIZED
Police have uncovered a massive drug manufacturing laboratory on a farm in Swartruggens, North West.
The intelligence-driven operation took place on Tuesday, 12 May, and continued into Wednesday 13 May. Officers seized drugs and manufacturing equipment with an estimated street value of over R100 million.
11 suspects were arrested, including:
• 4 Mexican nationals
• 1 woman
• 6 South Africans
The lab was allegedly producing various drugs, including crystal meth (tik), and was described as one of the biggest drug manufacturing busts in the province in recent times.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Kwaggafontein Magistrate’s Court soon.

PROMINENT TAXI BOSS JOE “FERRARI” SIBANYONI ARRESTED

Well-known Mpumalanga taxi boss Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni has been arrested along with two other suspects on extortion-related charges.
Sibanyoni, who owns a large fleet of taxis and has interests in mining, construction, and IT, was arrested during an early morning operation by the SAPS Organised Crime Unit in Gauteng and Mpumalanga on Tuesday (12 May).
The trio is accused of demanding large amounts of money (reportedly over R2 million) as “protection fees” from a businessman in the mining industry in the Kwaggafontein area.
They are expected to appear in the Kwaggafontein Magistrate’s Court today (13 May).
The arrest has raised questions about alleged underworld connections in the taxi industry.

Stats SA has dropped a bombshell report that’s got the whole country talking.

TWO TOP POLICE GENERALS ARRESTED IN PRECIOUS METALS CORRUPTION SCANDAL

In a massive blow to law enforcement, two high-ranking officers have been arrested over the weekend in connection with illegal dealing in precious metals.
Major-General Feroz Khan (Senior Crime Intelligence officer) and Major-General Ebrahim Kadwa (Gauteng Hawks head) were taken into custody along with a civilian, Tariq Downes.
Khan was arrested on Sunday after police raided his luxury apartment in Houghton, Johannesburg. Kadwa was arrested on Saturday.
The arrests are linked to an intensive investigation by Gauteng Counter-Intelligence Operations into unlawful possession and dealing in precious metals, corruption, and related offences. The case is believed to be connected to zama zama syndicates operating in abandoned mines.
The trio is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court today.

SEVERE FLOODING HITS EASTERN CAPE – HUNDREDS DISPLACED

Heavy rains have caused major flooding in the Kouga area and parts of the Garden Route in the Eastern Cape.
