Congratulations to @MagnusCarlsen on winning the 2023 Julius Baer Generation Cup! ๐
He wins his third event of this year's #ChessChamps Tour, and extends his lead in the standings after an incredible match against Firouzja! ๐ฏ
When does Magnus Carlsen expect the next generation to take over?
"It's kind of up to them, really. They have what it takes but the final boss of chess is usually pretty tough!"

Happy Birthday to GM Anna Ushenina, former womenโs world chess champion and multiple Olympiad medal winner, who turns 38 today! We wish you a year full of enjoyment, happiness and chess! ๐ ๐

During the 1948 world championship tournament, Smyslov won a classic game from Reshevsky with that special 26.Qh4!! (Soviet Information Bureau Photograph Collection, Fung Library, Harvard University).
The Champion's welcome back home! Praggnanandhaa returns to Chennai after a fantastic World Cup where he stood 2nd and booked his spot at the Candidates - followed by an amazing 6.5/7 at the World Rapid Teams!
The 18-year-old had a huge crowd waiting for him at the Airport! The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, @mkstalin felicitated Praggnanandhaa. Praggnanandhaa's School, @VelammalNexus School also greeted the young man with a beautiful handmade poster!

When you have chess pieces but no chessboard, yet you really want to play chess!
The absence of the board isn't enough to stop @rpragchess and @GM_JKDuda from playing blitz!
Check out this video by @wr_chess, winners of the #FIDERapidTeams 2023.
Magnus Carlsen: "I am very grateful to the organisers, FIDE and the doctors and nurses, who got me some good treatment. Today, I am feeling a bit better but I still didn't feel like I had the energy for a full fight, so I thought, let's get one more day of rest. Hopefully, I will have more strength tomorrow."
Praggnanandhaa: "I didn't really think that he would go for a quick draw today, but I realised when he went for this line that he wants to make a draw; I was also fine with that. I also feel exhausted, as I said in the previous interviews. Now I can just give everything tomorrow and relax after that." #FIDEWorldCup
Praggnanandhaa shook hands with Magnus Carlsen in roughly an hour. They played exactly 30 moves and their game 2 ended in a draw. Magnus was not feeling well and so he killed the game with white pieces. Conserve energy and put everything you have got into the tiebreaks is Carlsen's mantra. The score is now 1-1 and the match proceeds to shorter time controls - rapid (25 mins each) and perhaps even blitz.
A few minutes after Carlsen and Pragg shook hands, the entire country erupted into applause as the Vikram lander made a successful soft landing on the southern pole of the moon! Mission Chandrayaan 3 was successful. It's a massive achievement for India. No nation has been able to achieve soft landing on the southern pole of the moon. It's not just a great moment for our country but the entire humanity.
So 23rd August was a huge day for India. But what happens on 24th of August? Well, the rover which was nestled inside the lander will now get into action. The main job of exploring the moon will begin thanks to the rover. You know what's the name of the rover, don't you? It's PRAGYAN!
While Pragyan gets into action on the moon to start exploring the terrain, 18-year-old Praggnanandhaa will get into action in Baku, Azerbaijan. Pragg beat world no.3 Hikaru Nakamura 2-0 in tiebreaks and World no.2 Fabiano Caruana 2.5-1.5 in tiebreaks as well. He has been a tiebreaks monster at the FIDE World Cup 2023. But will he be able to beat World no.1 Magnus Carlsen?
Carlsen is an amazing rapid and blitz player. He has been 4-time world rapid champion and 6-time world blitz champion. When it comes to tiebreaks at the highest level, there is no one better than him. He showcased nerves of steel to beat Karjakin and Caruana to retain his world title. How can little Pragg beat such an amazing speed player like Carlsen?
Well, for both Praggnanandhaa in Baku and Pragyan on the moon, this is terra Incognita. It will require huge amounts of confidence to surmount the challenges up ahead! But both are fearless and the entire world will watch their every single move with bated breath! Let's Go!

Pragg beat @GMHikaru (#2 seed) in Round 4 and @FabianoCaruana (#3 seed) in the semis. If @rpragchess beats @MagnusCarlsen (#1 seed), he will become the first person in the history of the World Cup to beat all the top three seeds!
