The Washington State Scholastic Championship starts this weekend at the Tacoma Convention Center. We have 1,500+ players from across Washington State competing.

Congratulations to the 2026 Washington State Senior Champion, USCF Candidate Master Leonid Gavrysh, who captured the title for the third consecutive year. Mr. Gavrysh delivered a dominant performance, sweeping the field with a perfect 5–0 score.

Washington Chess Federation's Women & Girl's Secretary Chouchanik Airapetian was interviewed at a local TV station recently about the progress of girl's in chess.
Congratulations to Vignesh Anand of Redmond, Washington, who recently became Washington State's newest National Master! Vignesh achieved a US Chess rating of 2202 as a result of scoring 4/4 points at the recent Plano Swiss, held in Plano, Texas on Saturday, May 10, 2025.
"King" Leonid Gavrysh won the Washington Senior Championship with an impressive score of 4.5 out of 5!
This marks the third consecutive year that Gavrysh has claimed the Senior title.
