Strong southerly winds will develop in and along Cook Strait on Thursday and continue into Friday, with the potential for gusts >100 km/h (🔴).

Some of the places expected to see the strongest winds include Wellington, Marlborough Sounds, and Taranaki.

Here's a great shot of the fireball (large meteor) that streaked across the Mid-Atlantic skies around 9:25p, captured by Leigh Fitzgerald -- who shared it with us on Facebook! It was taken in Woodbridge, Va.
