Inherited yes. But Batswana voted for solutions, not excuses. Almost 3 years in, 'we inherited it' wears thin when hospitals still run out of meds and GDP is still contracting. Debt is the diagnosis. What is the treatment plan bo comrade?🤷🏽♂️
“Stand by your man” they said. So they stand. With bank transfers, prison visits, and hashtags. Nothing says “girl power” like crowdfunding a man’s prison commissary while his victims pay their own therapy bills.
Wow 😮
As Batswana we are stuck in a transition rut.
Botswana’s old model - diamonds + public sector is breaking. The new UDC gov’t inherited depleted buffers, a collapsed medical supply chain, and FMD is killing beef exports.
UDC led government is doing emergency fixes: military-led drug distribution, P97M for FMD vaccines, austerity to cut spending. But structural reforms, diversification, and fixing CMS are still work in progress.
We are in a painful correction. If diamond prices don’t recover and diversification doesn’t start producing jobs and revenue by 26/27, expect more austerity, service cuts, and political blowback.
The risk is Batswana losing faith in change the same way they did with BDP if they have not done so already.
Where are we heading?
